ECDoE takes Exam Readiness Campaign to Schools

In its campaign for exam readiness, the Department of Education in the Province of the Eastern Cape visited Saint Matthews high school to verify whether the school is ready to produce great results and strategies to maintain it’s good passing rate for the 2018 academic year.

Misile Ngqoba, principal of the school applauded his staff and learners for their dedication and discipline which he believes that it carried the school to greater heights. “Good relations, discipline and dedication has been the key factor for our success throughout the years,” said a proud Ngqoba. He added that the school has come up with its own programme for maintaining pass rate, through the assistance ofa None-Governmental Ogranisation (NGO) called Sifunda Kunye which provides computer labs for maths and science studies.

Ngqoba also mentioned that they get assistance through security guards, community members and hostel matrons for extra afternoon and evening classes.“We also use telematics for extra lessons by lectures from Stellenbosch,” said Ngqoba.

Siphelele Sinuka, a Grade 12 learner saidthat these classes help them a lot because during school hours their attention is not always sharp and therefore miss something. “These extra classes help us in understanding more as well as other extra classes in Fort Hare where we get to experience different methods of studying,” explained Sinuka.SonwabisoMenze also a grade 12 learner added that during afternoon or evening classes, learners get one on one attention or spend more time on a particular subject to make sure that learners understand.
