The NSC results for the Eastern Cape improved from 59% in 2016 to 65% in 2017. In addition, the Bachelor pass rate improved from 19% to 22%. After the release of the results in January 2017, the Eastern Cape Department of Education developed its 2018 NSC Improvement Plan based on:

ü  Analysis of the 2016 and 2017 NSC results
ü  Examiners’ reports for 2016 and 2017
ü  A review of 2017 support programmes and interventions

In the first school term of 2018 many schools, teachers and learners began preparing in earnest for the final examinations. The ECDOE commends this and will from 2 May 2018 intensify its support for Grade 12 learners.  In particular, the ECDOE will focus on ensuring that all Grade 12 learners have:

1.       A teacher for every subject offered
2.       A textbook for every subject
3.       The NSC 2018 Timetable
4.       span style="font-size: small;">A copy of Tips for Success
5.       Study Guides in high enrolment subjects
6.       Past NSC Examination Papers for revision
7.       A copy of radio and television NSC support timetables
8.       Extra classes after school and on Saturdays
9.       Winter schools in the July holidays
10.   span style="font-size: small;">Spring Schools in the October holidays

span style="font-size: small;">The final 2018 National Senior Certificate Examinations begin on 22 October 2018. This means that from 2 May 2018 Grade12 learners have only 180 days, including weekends and holidays, and less than 100 days to prepare for this important milestone in their lives.

span style="font-size: small;">The ECDOE invites all partners and members of the public to support the Grade 12 learners of the Eastern Cape and to help us protect precious teaching and learning time.

We haven't received any of the textbooks we ordered in 2017 for 2018. How do you plan on increasing Grade 12 Learner performance when the department is acting in this manner.
